“Not in My Back Yard” with Rabbi Abe Friedman
May 1, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until June 12, 2019
Throughout the history of civilization, people have lived in close proximity to other – especially when living in dense urban areas. How do we balance individual property rights against the interests of people living nearby? The Babylonian Talmud deals with this question in the second chapter of Tractate Bava Batra, and our class will offer a survey of the Talmud’s approach to neighborliness as well as a conceptual understanding of how Talmud operates.
All texts will be provided in English as well as the original language and no prior experience with Talmud is necessary for this course.
This class will run from May 1 through June 12.
