Today’s post is from Debbie Stewart, Immediate Past President of Society Hill Synagogue and current Center City Kehillah representative.
I plan to jump start the new year with the live music of Mattan Klein and his Quartet on Friday, September 30 at 6:15 PM, at Society Hill Synagogue. Mattan is a renowned Israeli flutist and composer. I missed him a number of years ago when he packed the sanctuary, but I will not miss this event again.
I have been listening to his soundtracks on-line, and I love the music. Ritualistic, on their new CD, really draws me in. I found myself closing my eyes and creating visualizations. I also like Solar Cycle and Midsummer Night Dream. You may want to check out their music on Mattan’s website.
The evening will begin with a Kabbalat Shabbat service with musical accompaniment provided by the Mattan Klein Quartet. Following the service, they will perform, featuring music with composition styles from his recent CD. I think you will find some of his pieces to be lively, while others are more meditative. They are sure to nourish your spirit.
The event is free! Please let us know if you plan to join us for a special Shabbat dinner in our social hall following the concert. I hope you can! We are located at 481 Spruce Street. Free street parking with placard.
